It has been in use since 1978 to treat many medical conditions e.g. eye squints, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, Parkinson’s to name but a few.
As a cosmetic treatment, it is a non-surgical treatment that can temporarily reduce lines.
Over time, our skin creases in the areas where we use our muscles most, eventually leaving us with permanent wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox™, Azzalure™) inactivates the muscles preventing them from forming lines and allowing your skin to recover so over time the wrinkles lessen, fade or disappear altogether
The effect of botulinum toxin can last for approximately 3-5 months, although this varies between individuals and a time period is not guaranteed. Gradually, normal muscle use resolves, and the wrinkles or lines will start to return after this time. It is recommended that you return when you start to see this happening again if you wish for the result to be maintained.
Minor side effects that are commonly experienced with anti-wrinkle injections are redness and swelling at the treatment site, which usually subsides within an hour of treatment and bruising can also occur. This will be explained to you during the pre-treatment consultation, along with any other potential side effects that can occur.
The treatment takes around 20 minutes.
You will be able to return to work immediately if you wish but may have mild redness at the injection sites for up to an hour after the treatment.
Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat many areas: frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, bunny lines, and necklines as well as many conditions including migraines, tension headaches, excessive sweating and facial flushing.
Within 2 to 5 days, you may start to see an improvement in your wrinkles and lines; however, the lines can continue to improve for up to a month after initial treatment. Depending on which Botulinum Toxin is used and your own individual metabolism results can last from 3-5 months. If you are looking for a long-term result you will need to have more frequent treatments in the first few years thereafter a maintenance treatment should be all that is required. Botulinum Toxin will not dramatically change your facial appearance or make you look totally expressionless the muscle activity that causes the forehead frown lines is simply reduced, so you should still be able to frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases, simply allowing you to look fresher and more youthful. If a more frozen result is desired then you should discuss this with your practitioner.
We would like you to return to the clinic in 2 weeks for a follow-up assessment appointment, especially after your first treatment. This will ensure we are able to see how your facial muscles react to your treatment. If you require additional botulinum toxin to fine-tune/adjust your treatment results there will be no additional charge.
